Established in 1835, the St. Charles Streetcar line is registered as a National Historic Landmark and is the oldest continuously operating streetcar system in the world. Today, it is operated by the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority (NORTA) and serves as a vital line of transportation for both locals and visitors. Most of the streetcars used on the line are 1920s green Perley Thomas cars, but damage from Hurricane Katrina has caused NORTA to supplement the line with bus service. The 15-mile route begins on Canal Street, in the French Quarter, and winds its way around the historic mansions of the Garden District, past Tulane University and the beautiful Audubon Zoo and Park, and finally up Carrollton Avenue.
Schedule varies, check website for details.
Individual tickets $1.25; Children 2 and under are free. One day pass $5. Three day pass $12.
