Lafayette Cemetery No. 1, first established in 1833, is home to the remains of many of the historic figures from New Orlean's colored past. Visitors to the cemetery will notice the tombs of families dating back to the Civil War, as well as many of the city's residents who passed away during the terrible yellow fever outbreak of the 19th century. The cemetery is uptown from the French Quarter, within easy walking distance from the St. Charles Streetcar.
Open Mon. - Fri. 7:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; Sat. 7:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
